Metagaming is the use of information obtained outside of the game, or information which your character has no way of knowing, to further your own ends or obstruct someone else’s. Essentially, it is cheating, and it ruins the game. Sure, it might get your character that great item, or allow him to use that cool spell, but the entire point of the game is in the challenge of having to navigate only on what you have, and having to ascend fairly. The game is entirely up to us, and if we really wanted to, we could all start at level forty and fight a bunch of housecats, but, even though we’d probably win in something like -3 seconds, it would be no fun. Now, that is an extreme example, but I think my point is clear.
